Enhanced Logistics: Streamlining Printing BOLs Process through NetSuite Integration with R+L Carriers

Enhanced Logistics: Streamlining Printing BOLs Process through NetSuite Integration with R+L Carriers

Overview

The client wanted to manage their shipping capabilities and gain better visibility into the shipment process. The project aimed to ensure NetSuite integration with R+L Carriers, a third-party shipping website. NetSuite is the client’s primary enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. NetSuite integration facilitated streamlined printing of Bills of Lading (BOLs) directly within the software, enhancing efficiency and visibility in logistics operations.

Challenges Faced

  • Manual BOL printing process within NetSuite.
  • Lack of seamless access to comprehensive shipment details from R+L Carriers.
  • Inefficient workflow due to manual data entry and retrieval.
  • Limited visibility into the shipment process for informed decision-making.

Solution Offered

Key Implementation Steps

User Event Script Development

  • A user event script named “UE Print BOL Button” was developed within NetSuite.
  • This script created a button named “Print BOL” in the Item Fulfillment (IF) record, providing users a convenient way to initiate BOL printing.
  • The script retrieved the PRO number (tracking number) from the IF and passed it to a Suitelet script using parameters.

Suitelet Script Development

  • A Suitelet script named “Suitelet Print BOL” was developed to handle BOL printing.
  • This script was triggered upon clicking the ‘Print BOL’ button, and the PRO number was retrieved from the IF record.
  • Using the PRO number and an API key, the script fetched the response from R+L Carriers using the GET method.
  • After obtaining the BOL document, the script saved it in a designated folder within NetSuite’s file cabinet.
  • Finally, the script loaded and displayed the BOL document within NetSuite for easy access by users.

Result

The NetSuite integration with R+L Carriers, alongside the development of custom scripts, yielded significant results. As a leading NetSuite solutions provider, SuiteMatrix could enhance efficiency by allowing users to print Bills of Lading (BOLs) seamlessly within the software, reducing manual effort and streamlining the shipping process. Moreover, access to comprehensive shipment details from R+L Carriers within NetSuite improved visibility into logistics operations, facilitating informed decision-making. The seamless data flow between systems eliminated the need for manual data entry, minimizing errors and ensuring smoother operations.
